Horse Betting Payouts

Money wagered and the horses’s odds affect the payout amount.

The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Horses facing long odds payout more than favorite horses. Check the odds listed next to your horse. A small number indicates a favored horse. A large number indicates a long shot.

In most cases, odds are listed next to the horse’s name. Wager type, odds and pool size determine final payout amounts. See our discussion of various ways to bet on horses for more information.
