Classic Empire 9/2
Trainer: Mark E. Casse
There was little to question Classic Empire’s potential at the Arkansas Derby. A superb finish claimed the Derby’s $1M purse and a berth at the Derby. Can Classic Empire stay in peak form for the Run for the Roses? He’s the odds on favorite and our current pick for the win.

Always Dreaming 19/4
Trainer: Todd A. Pletcher
Always Dreaming bested a competitive field at Gulfstream Park’s Florida Derby on April 1st. But we’re no April fool for this horse yet. Let’s wait and see where the late money goes before taking a 19/4 line. Trainer Pletcher is gifted and places horses in the Derby perennially. He has a plan for certain.
Irish War Cry 6/1
Trainer: H. Graham Motion
The grade 2 Wood Stakes Memorial at Aqueduct yielded Irish War Cry a convincing victory. Although the field wasn’t as deep compared to the Arkansas or Florida Derbies, Motion’s training obviously paid dividends. 6/1 is a slight stretch at this point. The 7th place finish to Gunnevera at the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes, while concerning, may have been an off day. This horse was undefeated in 3 races before that day.
