The Daily Double is picking the first position horses in two different races. Each horse must finish in the first position for your bet to win.
Daily Double bets are ideal for races with big favorites facing little competition. However, Daily Doubles are riskier because picking two race winners is less probable compared to one race winner.

Sample procedure for how to make a Daily Double bet at a horse racebook
- Select the “Daily Double Bet” from your racebook’s wagering menu.
- Note the horses in two races, listed on the left. The next “ML” column lists the odds.
- Select the first position horses for two races. In this diagram, the Race #7 first position horse has 5:1 odds. The Race #8 first position horse has 6:1 odds.
- ***Notes: Both horses must finish first in their races. Advanced bettors could place a Daily Double Wheel bet by choosing more than one horse to finish first in each race. For example, bettor chooses Charlie and Dan to win Race 7. Horses Skip and Paul are chosen win Race 8. The bet wins if either Charlie or Dan wins Race 7, and either Skip or Pail wins Race 8. Example: $2 Straight Daily Double Bet
The minimum Daily Double costs $1. If you’re betting an exacta for the first time, bet the lowest amount possible.
Example Bet:
$1 Daily Double on Horse 12,Race 3 and Horse 8,Race 5. That means you are betting $1 that horses 12 and 8 will finish first in their races.

The Daily Double bet is picking sets of horses to finish first in two different races. This bet improves your chances of winning because 1 or more horses can be chosen for each race.
Can I make a Daily Double Box Bet?
Daily Double Box bets are not possible because the bettor only makes choices for first position. Box bets are for two or more finishing positions.
The Daily Double “Key” Concept
Keying means selecting a set of horses to finish in a certain position. Daily Doubles are for first position in two different races. That means 2 keys must be made for each Daily Double Wheel.
Start with the first race key. Select 1 or more horses. For example, suppose horses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 are racing.
Make the second race key. Select 1 or more horses. For example, suppose horses 3,4,5,6,7 are racing.
Example 1st Race 1st Horse Key is: Horses 4 & 2
That means horses 4 or 2 must finish first. You can only win if 4 or 2 finish first.
Example 2nd Race 2nd Horse Key is: Horses 3,5,7
That means horses 3, 5 or 7 must finish first. You can only win if horses 3, 5 or 7 finish first.

Consider the following example. We’ve keyed horses into the each race’s first position. Daily Doubles cost $1 times number of combinations.
