A Suprfecta Box bet is picking the top 4 horses finishing in ANY order. This bet improves your chances of winning because you can choose more than 4 horses and order doesn’t matter.
The following video explains how to place this bet. The steps are the same for Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta. Rewind the video to review each straight bet.

Superfecta Box bets cost more than a straight Superfecta. Each possible winning combination costs $1.
Superfecta Box Cost Calculation: (Number of horses) x (Number of horses – 1) x (Number of horses – 2) x (Number of horses – 3) x (Cost per combination)
A 4 horse Superfecta Box means there are 24 possible finishing combinations. Your bet will cost $24, $1 per combination.
4 horse cost = (4 horses) x (4 horses – 1) x (4 horses – 2) x (4 horses – 3) x $1 = $24
5 horse cost = (5 horses) x (4) x (3) x (2) x $1 = $120
6 horse cost = (6 horses) x (5) x (4) x (3) x $1 = $360
Example: $1 Superfecta Box Bet
Sample for how to make a straight Superfecta Box Bet from a horse racebook.
- Select the "Superfecta Bet" from your racebook’s wagering menu.
- Note the horses in the race, listed on the left. The next "ML" column lists the odds.
- Select 4 or more horses to finish first, second, third, and fourth. Remember, final order does not matter. In this diagram, the first horse has 4:1 odds. The second horse has 5:1 odds. The third horse has 6:1 odds. The fourth horse has 12:1 odds.
- You must click the blue "Box" button. This indicates the bet is a Superfecta Box and not a straight Superfecta.
- ***Notes: 4 or more horses must finish first, second, third and fourth.
For example you bet horses James, Ted, Chris and Larry. Suppose the race finishes Chris, Ted, James, Larry. The bet would win. If the race finishes Larry, Ted, Chris, James the bet also wins. But if horse Dan ends up first, second or third the bet would lose. You did not choose Dan in your box.
Example: A $1 Superfecta Box on horses 11-9-13-1 means that there are 24 different possible winning combinations. The total wager costs $24. The bet wins if horses 11, 9, 13 or 1 finish in the top 4 in ANY order.
